Topic: Elder Hiking Tips and Tricks

Many people choose to embark on hiking journeys as they retire, finally with plenty of time to devote to a favorite activity. Whether you dream of attempting a long backpack trip or maintaining your ability to day hike to beautiful places, thru-hiker Mary "Fireweed" Kwart will present some tips and tricks for staying safe, found, comfortable, healthy, sane, and staying in touch on your journey.

 

In addition:

  • Donate money during registration to support the Bigfoot Trail Alliance, an organization that manages the 360-mile long-distance hiking trail through the Klamath Mountains of northwest California and, briefly, southwest Oregon.

For this event 1/3 of the donations will be given to Mary, and 1/3 will be given to the Bigfoot Trail Alliance, and 1/3 will support the event series. *Donations will appear as a second "ticket" in your order **Donations are not tax deductible unless made directly to a registered non-profit organization.

About the Speaker

Mary "Fireweed" Kwart retired in 2007 from a 30-year career in wildland fire management, and has been long-distance backpacking since 1971. She achieved her lifelong dream of completing the Pacific Crest Trail in 2010--after having hiked sections of the trail since 1976. She has also re-hiked the 500 miles Oregon section of the Pacific Crest Trail, completed the 485-mile Colorado Trail, the 800-mile Arizona Trail, the 730-mile Grand Enchantment Trail, the 360-mile Bigfoot Trail, the 800-mile Oregon Desert Trail, 600 miles of the Hayduke Trail, the Camino Invierno in Spain and other trips in Alaska and Scotland. Only register if you can attend this event in person

  • A recording of each event (excluding the conversation portion) will be uploaded to the Intentional Hiking YouTube channel.
  • Each recording will be accompanied by a Conversation Kit which will help you have a discussion on the event's theme with friends and family.

Non-profit Partners
